Javier's Mexican Cantina In Irvine, CA

If there is one thing to be learned in reviewing restaurants, is that not all units have the same people. This is what we learned when my husband and I went to Javier's Mexican Restaurant in the Irvine Spectrum in Irvine, CA. There is another, very fine Javier in Laguna Beach. Nobody seems to mind the hard time they have finding a parking space when enjoying a night there. But the brother in the Irvine Spectrum does not seem to be cut "from the same cloth. " My parents suggested we all go to spectrum to celebrate our anniversary. It basa this in your enjoyment of food, service and atmosphere in Laguna Beach. Having been there on many occasions that this latest location figured would be a good place to go. We all love Mexican food and the place was occupied central. Evidently be is not the same as knowing how to treat their guests. Being a large portion (10), we knew that we have to wait. The host was not pleasant when we asked for a "guesstimate". She grouse that should be about 30 minutes. When you have passed 45, my husband went up to ask whether we can expect to be seated shortly. A stewardess nearly bit off his head. Finally after an hour we seated. It did not improve. The host literally threw the menus of all of us. 10 minutes passed before anyone recognizes our existence. My parents could not believe how horrible the service-which is said to have known that it was a "180" of the former restaurant, who have never suggested it. We had almost physically to grab someone to achieve our purpose. Our dinners were plunked out loud in front of us, some even near hot. To correct this-my teenage nephew went to the reception desk and asked if someone could help us. They were really rude about having to heat the food. No a wine to apologize, ask us for something or how it was once the cold plates came back. The food was mediocre and fat. We never were given parts in our waters or coffee. Not one of the many waiters who threw the food we asked if we would like dessert. Then suddenly we have given some attention! The staff shook our plates (finished or not), chip baskets and silver off the table and one of the officials gave us the bill. He was the first smile of the night. I guess she thought would help its tip. The tip was "taking the manager more. " We explained how they had been treated and why we are not leaving a tip. He says curtly "fine" and walked away. Maybe it was that we have not asked any alcohol. We think that perhaps this was just a night. However really is, it was not. Our son and his girlfriend gave him another attempt one month later. Same treatment. Our daughter and her husband tried a couple of nights ago-who said they had never had such terrible service or less palatable food. Why is still able to pack the crowds? Maybe drink at the bar for an hour before you're sitting makes the bad service and digest food less noticeable.
